About IIT Madras
IIT Madras has begun its admission process for the academic session 2024. The registration for JEE Main 2024 session 2 has started and will be open till March 2 for IIT Madras admission to the UG engineering courses. Candidates need to qualify JEE Main in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced. The admission to B.Tech courses at IIT Madras is done on JEE Advanced basis. JEE Advanced will be held on May 26 followed by JoSAA counselling for IIT Madras admission in BTech courses.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras was established in 1959. As per NIRF Ranking 2023, IIT Madras has bagged the first position in the overall category. It has also secured the first position in the engineering category. In the innovation category, the institute has bagged the 2nd position. Apart from NIRF, the institute was placed in 250th place at the QS World University Rankings 2023 and 21st rank in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023: Engineering-Petroleum. IIT Madras campus is spread across 630 acres of land and has over 550 faculty, 9700 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff.
IITM courses are spread across 16 academic departments. It offers multiple courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Apart from the regular courses, it also offers an online B.Sc programme. IIT Chennai admissions in all these programmes are done based on entrance exams. UG admissions are done through JEE Advanced, and admission to the MA and M.Tech programmes are done through GATE. Candidates willing to take admission in the MBA and M.Sc programme need to appear for CAT and JAM respectively.
As per the Indian Institute of Technology Madras placement report 2022, the highest salary package recorded by the management student was Rs 25.3 LPA. The highest stipend recorded at the IITM summer internship placement 2023 was Rs 2,50,000.
